Musicals

Early Bird Week is coming - Consider a MODERN MUSICAL!

The benefits of involving young people in musical theatre have long been documented. However as little as ten years ago, school productions were not afforded the same luxury of variety that other organisations enjoyed...

Fast forward to today and the options for school productions are as extensive as, if not more than, those for theatrical companies, with publishers catering to a wide range of skill levels, as well as themes and subject matters.

More contemporary musicals such as our hugely popular Disney shows will easily pique the interest of your students thanks to their well loved songs and instantly recognisable titles. With a wide range of shows spanning various formats, the Disney collection caters to all skill levels. DISNEY'S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, DISNEY'S HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL and DISNEY'S CAMP ROCK are just a few of the full length Disney shows with successful movie predecessors that your students will know and love.

Other newer full length shows in our collection such as BIG THE MUSICAL, SIGN OF THE SEAHORSE, and URINETOWN explore modern issues, making them more relatable for school-age performers and audiences alike.

Recent years have also seen widely popular stage favourites adapted into school-appropriate versions without dulling down their impact. Introducing... The School Edition Collection. Think: all the romance of MISS SAIGON, or the hilarity of AVENUE Q, with less raciness and more accessibility. This collection also includes adaptations of other big-name shows like LES MISERABLES, RENT, AIDA, RAGTIME and SWEENEY TODD.

Also proving particularly popular is the ever-growing Broadway Junior and Kids Collections. These one act shows (thirty or sixty minutes in duration) are performed with a full orchestrated Backing Track, making much loved musicals like DISNEY’S CINDERELLA, DISNEY’S SLEEPING BEAUTY, MEREDITH WILLSON’S THE MUSIC MAN, and GUYS & DOLLS accessible to even the youngest of performers.

Employing the concept of a “musical in a box”, resources for each junior show come in a ready-to-go package of materials, all developed to make putting on a youth production achievable, even for teachers with no theatrical training.

A modern musical has the potential to rekindle your performers’ enthusiasm for your next school musical and offer your audiences something new and exciting to enjoy! Many of these titles are featured in our Early Bird Week specials, running from 28th of October to 3rd of November 2013.

Read on and start thinking about what show you will put on next year...
