Synopsis

In this classic tale of good versus evil we meet our hero on the streets of metropolis ‘doing good’ as he foils robberies and saves citizens. The people of Metropolis realise their dependency on Superman as they sing “We Need Him”. Next we meet the mild mannered Clark Kent at the Daily Planet where Superman receives the adoration of Lois Lane and the disdain of the ego maniacal Max Mencken. As Lois sings of her love for the man of steel there is a call from the renowned scientist Professor Abner Sedgwick. Sedgwick has a problem that only Superman can solve. His Nuclear reactor and MIT is malfunctioning and is hours away from reducing Metropolis to a pile of rubble. Superman arrives at the reactor in the nick-of-time and averts disaster. With this act we learn of Sedgwick’s plan to find Superman’s weakness. He befriends Lois and uses her connections with Superman and her position at the paper to find such a weakness. The mania of Mencken escalates as he creates a plan to expose superman’s real identity using everything at his disposal, including his girlfriend. When there is a disaster in Metropolis, the citizens quickly turn on Superman, blaming him for not saving the day. Sedgwick uses this to his advantage and recruits Mencken and some hired goons – the Flying Lings – in a plan to bring Superman to his knees. Sedgwick almost manages to remove Superman from the metropolis skyline when he double crosses one too many people. Superman is restored to his former self and saves the day after almost having his secret identity revealed.
